GovExec Announces Michael Mellody to Step into New role as Chief Operations Officer

Former SVP and GM of Digital Promoted to Enhance GovExec’s Expansive Portfolio and Rapidly Growing Operations Efforts

Washington, DC (August 5, 2024) -- GovExec, the leading information services and marketing intelligence company for government leaders and contractors, announced today the promotion of Michael Mellody from Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital to Chief Operations Officer, a newly created role to oversee the company's product development and corporate strategy. The announcement was made by Tim Hartman, CEO of GovExec, to whom Michael will report.

“When we began talks about introducing a Chief Operations Officer at GovExec, Michael was at the forefront of that conversation given his strategic operational leadership,” said Tim Hartman. “Over the last two years since he joined GovExec, Michael has helped us map our products and services, develop key growth targets, and build a strategic plan to continue the company’s successful growth trajectory. Now in this new position, Michael will take an even more active role in formulating the strategies and roadmaps that will direct the company forward and help us to continue capturing the market opportunities emerging in the government space.”

As the COO, Mellody will lead corporate strategy, product development, engineering, and IT operations, as well as manage a portfolio of digital businesses including GovExec Digital, City & State Digital, Washington Technology, and Power Almanac. Across these responsibilities, Mellody will oversee key projects and product initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company’s larger strategic goals.

Mellody takes on the COO role after joining GovExec in 2022. During that time, he led the implementation of company-wide data infrastructure, spearheaded several product integrations, and managed the digital demand generation businesses. Prior to GovExec, Mellody worked in product strategy roles at Google, Facebook, and Atlantic Media. At Google, he led product launches for Google Search and Assistant, including a redesign of Top Stories in Search.
