[WASHINGTON, D.C.], October 13, 2026: GovExec, the leading intelligence platform trusted by government decision-makers and the partners who serve them, today announced that Tim Hartman is stepping down as GovExec CEO and will transition into an advisory role to support the company’s ongoing growth. Dan McCarthy is assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer, fully transitioning into the role over the next few weeks. Peter Goldstone, Chairman of the Board, announced the change today.
After leading the spin-off from Atlantic Media in 2020, Hartman has been instrumental in building a highly respected enterprise, completing GovExec's 14 acquisitions, and integrating teams, brands, and capabilities into one company. Under Tim’s leadership, GovExec grew revenue 5x through strategic acquisitions and organic platform innovation, evolving from a digital media business into the differentiated lead and intelligence platform trusted by government decision-makers and government contractor-partners alike. Hartman will transition to the role of Senior Advisor.
“We are deeply grateful to Tim for 25 years of leadership. He built the well-respected and premier platform that GovExec is today, and his vision and persistence led the company through an extraordinary business transformation,” said Peter Goldstone. “We appreciate all of Tim’s contributions.”
“Guiding GovExec’s evolution into the public sector’s leading intelligence platform has been an extraordinary journey,” said Hartman. “By launching transformational AI tools and groundbreaking products, we have reframed how the government ecosystem of vendors and decision-makers work together. I am extremely proud of what our team has built and confident in Dan’s leadership for our next chapter.”
McCarthy brings more than 25 years of experience leading information, data, and media businesses through growth, transformation, and complex transitions. Most recently, through his consulting firm Gallarus Advisors, he served as CEO of Atheneum, focusing on stabilizing operations, sharpening the company’s operating model, and restoring profitability. Previously, he was CEO of Dodge Construction Network, where he renewed organic growth and led the acquisition of Blue Book, doubling the company’s revenue. At Taunton Press, he restored profitability and shifted the business toward digital subscriptions and e-commerce. Earlier, as CEO of Network Communications, Inc., he led a period of expansion that more than doubled revenue and included 15 acquisitions. He also led PRIMEDIA Enthusiast Media and Cowles Business Media.
“Dan brings deep experience helping information businesses sharpen their strategic focus, strengthen performance, and pursue growth. He takes a data- and technology-first approach that will help us increase our value to clients and accelerate our organic and M&A-driven growth as GovExec enters its next phase of expansion,” said Goldstone.
"GovExec has earned a trusted position with government decision-makers and the companies that serve them. I'm excited to work with and learn from this team to build on that foundation and accelerate growth," said McCarthy.
