ARLINGTON, Va.GovExec, the industry-leading sales and marketing intelligence company for government leaders and contractors, today celebrated winning four honors across its editorial portfolio at the 2026 Jesse H. Washington Technology won the Neal Award for Best Commentary for its coverage of how President Trump’s policies are impacting government contracting.

Defense Ones Meghann Myers won the Neal Award for Best Range of Work by a Single Author for her coverage of workforce cuts at the Pentagon.

Additionally, Defense One was one of eight defense-oriented newsrooms to win the Timothy White Award for Editorial Integrity for their principled response to newly implemented media access policies at the Pentagon.

"The breadth of recognition across our portfolio this year reflects something our teams have always known: rigorous, independent journalism about how government works matters deeply — to the people who serve in it, the industries that support it, and the citizens affected by it,” said Tim Hartman, CEO of GovExec. “We're incredibly proud of every one of these journalists and the work they do every day."

“Our journalists are doing some of their best—and most important—work in media right now at a time and in an environment that truly demands it,” said Frank Konkel, Editor in Chief of GovExec, “ They’re covering a once-in-a-generation workforce upheaval, widespread AI adoption across government, and historic changes to both defense policy and federal acquisition, and they’re doing it with the kind of accurate, principled reporting our readers expect and know us for. I could not be prouder of all our work.”

Government Executive was also a finalist for the Neal Award for Best News Coverage for its analysis of policy and personnel changes at the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Named after Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of American Business Media, the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media. Award-winning content reports on major industry issues of the time.
