Washington, D.C. (November 12, 2024) – GovExec, the leading sales and marketing intelligence company and news organization for government leaders and contractors, today announced the appointment of Jessie Bur to lead Nextgov/FCW and Route Fifty, GovExec’s news organizations delivering editorial coverage on cybersecurity, IT modernization, AI and other emerging technologies. Reporting to Frank Konkel, GovExec’s Editor-in-Chief, Bur will oversee editorial direction across Nextgov/FCW and Route Fifty, now sharing a unified focus on governments’ use of technology across the federal, state, and local levels.

This appointment follows GovExec’s decision to merge the editorial teams of Route Fifty and Nextgov/FCW to further align and focus coverage on how all levels of government are embracing innovation. Bur previously served as Managing Editor of Nextgov/FCW since joining GovExec in 2022.

“Our audience has made it clear they want more coverage of how technologies are being leveraged at a state and local level as well as on a larger federal scale,” said Konkel. “Jessie’s expertise in this space will be invaluable as we streamline to meet this demand and deliver in-depth reporting on the issues and topics impacting this area of the public sector.”

In her reporting on government and technology, Bur has interviewed top leaders across multiple administrations, broken stories of government subcontractors fighting to get paid, and won an award for her coverage of protests against FBI efforts to get back door access into phones. Prior to joining GovExec, she worked as a technology reporter for the Federal Times and MeriTalk.
