GovExec Makes Strategic Investment in Local Government Business Intelligence Data Asset, Power Almanac

New Partnership Unlocks Opportunities for Vendors to Expand Their Reach to Local Government Decision Makers

June 8, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC (June 8, 2021) —  GovExec, the leading information services company serving government leaders and contractors, today announced that it has made a strategic investment in Power Almanac, the most comprehensive and actionable business intelligence tool housing data and insights on U.S. local government decision makers. The multi-year agreement went into effect on June 7, 2021. The financial terms of the investment are not being disclosed. The announcement was made by Tim Hartman, CEO of GovExec and Ron Mester, CEO & Founder of Power Almanac.

Much like GovExec, Power Almanac is built to connect the private sector to the right government decision makers, empowering them to provide the solutions that drive government forward. With nearly 270,000 government leader records from more than 21,000 cities, counties, and townships, Power Almanac’s comprehensive data asset makes it a significant addition to the company’s data and insights portfolio. With GovExec’s transformation into the leading insights and intelligence platform in the public sector, this new tool will underscore the company’s imperative to assemble critical business intelligence tools that support government contractors at every phase of the buying process, from opportunity research and identification to reaching exactly the right decision makers, to winning and fulfilling contracts.

In the last six months, GovExec has made a series of acquisitions to fuel its state and local government portfolio, including The Atlas for Cities (The Atlas) and City & State New York, and recently launched City & State Pennsylvania, to complement its award-winning brand, Route Fifty. This investment in Power Almanac combines this unmatched local government data asset with its existing state and local properties, to drive increased reach, stronger lead generation, and enhanced CRM services to GovExec’s existing and potential clients. Similarly, GovExec’s deep relationships in the local government space and its investment in Power Almanac will accelerate innovations within the data platform, raise awareness of their offerings with new audiences, and expand data coverage and its already sophisticated segmentation capabilities. Together, these two companies will scale up and help contractors generate more leads in the sales process for their client bases.

“Being able to partner with a government sector leader like GovExec is a big opportunity for us to scale both our size and our database,” said Mester. “GovExec’s brand is known for its trust, expertise and innovation, which are consistent with our values and focus. Joining forces with them cannot be underestimated, enabling us to quickly expand awareness of our capabilities that might otherwise take years to accomplish. We are excited to grow together and bring exciting new opportunities to our clients.”

“The incredible high-quality database of government officials that Ron and team have created is going to be a major asset to any client that provides services to local government,” said Hartman. “We see the integration of Power Almanac with our state and local government portfolio—The Atlas, Route Fifty and City & State—as a way to supercharge the value we bring to our clients in that market, with more precise insights, enhanced reach, faster lead generation, and more targeted activations.”

Power Almanac was founded by Ron Mester in 2011 as a culmination of his experience in market research, software and AI with his passion for and work with local governments. Power Almanac’s mission is to make it easy for organizations with the ability to help local governments serve their citizens more efficiently and effectively to reach out and connect with key decision makers at the right local governments. Ron founded Power Almanac at a time when there was a strong attention on data about leaders in the federal and state government sectors, but very modest data available about local government leaders.

Ron’s longstanding interest in government started in a high school government class taught by the mayor of Torrance, CA, and continued through a BA in political science, MBA in public policy/management, several years as a member of the San Francisco Mayor’s Fiscal Advisory Committee, and the launching of Power Almanac.
