WASHINGTON, DC (August 31, 2021) — GovExec, the leading information services and insights company for government leaders and contractors, today announced the carve-out and acquisition of 1105 Media Inc’s Public Sector 360 Group, the prominent information, insights, and lead generation company for the government technology community. The announcement was made today by Tim Hartman, CEO of GovExec and Rajeev Kapur, President and CEO of 1105 Media Inc. This acquisition, the latest of several highly strategic acquisitions announced over the last year, marks GovExec’s accelerated investment commitment to the government market. Terms of the transaction are not being disclosed. Peter Goldstone, Chairman of GovExec, served as advisor. The deal was completed with financial support from mid-market private-equity firm Growth Catalyst Partners (GCP). CapM Advisors acted as financial advisor to 1105 Media Inc.
Today’s acquisition fuels GovExec’s continued growth, making it the preeminent provider of access and engagement tools connecting government technology leaders to the solutions they need to advance their missions. By adding Public Sector 360’s portfolio of information, events, lead generation and marketing solutions, along with its deep reach in the government technology space, GovExec now claims the largest sector database with access to nearly 70% of all federal technology buyers. In addition, this acquisition further broadens GovExec’s scale in the defense and state and local government markets and, with the addition of Washington Technology, adds a powerful insights platform to GovExec’s fast-growing stable of decision-support tools.
With Public Sector 360, GovExec will immediately turn its attention to executing on several key growth initiatives, including:
● Expand Audience in Government Technology: The combined editorial and audience development power in the GovExec portfolio will help the company further grow its technology audience and database. The portfolio will now include GCN as an anchor in the state and local technology space, and provide the opportunity for future expansion of coverage in key categories, including cybersecurity and health technology.
● Supercharge Growth of its Subscription Platforms: GovExec will immediately look to expand the renowned Washington Technology subscription membership platform, while leveraging the brand’s unique community building expertise. This will accelerate the growth of the existing subscription portfolio (GovTribe, The Atlas, Military Periscope) and potential new offerings across its fast-growing portfolio of research and decision-support tools.
● Develop the Most Powerful Engagement Platform in the Public Sector: GovExec takes a customer-centric approach when developing and delivering all products and services. Powered by the largest database in government, the most sophisticated decision support and lead generation tools, and the strongest business intelligence and marketing services capabilities, GovExec will continue to scale the impact and outcomes it delivers to customers, helping them win at every phase of the buying journey.
“With each strategic decision we make, we look for the ability to leap us forward, build our expertise in new areas and complement our larger portfolio to expand results for our customers,” said Tim Hartman. “Public Sector 360 is a seminal acquisition for us. Now with the largest database of government leaders, and the scale and breadth across the public sector technology community, we can catalyze government in an even more effective manner. With Public Sector 360’s actionable intelligence for, and engagement with, government IT leaders, we will be able to deepen our bench strength across our core areas of data that informs, media that connects, and marketing services that activate.”
For more than 30 years, Public Sector 360 has been engaging and connecting with government IT leaders, building up an incredible network of technology leaders, practitioners and influencers. The addition of renowned brands and platforms in the public sector space—FCW, GCN, Washington Technology, The Fed 100, Defense Systems—align with GovExec’s intention to continue to build the most comprehensive and powerful suite of decision-support tools serving the entire public sector ecosystem.
Over the last several decades, we built a company to help government leaders and contractors be more informed, more competitive and more connected,” said Rajeev Kapur, President and CEO, 1105 Media Inc. “I am so proud of what we have accomplished and where we continue to excel serving other sectors. For our government technology business, this is a great move. GovExec is a valued and trusted brand and the perfect home for the Public Sector 360 team and portfolio of leading information, lead generation and marketing services products. I look forward to seeing all that they create as a unified company.”
Veteran executive, Troy K. Schneider, will assume the role of GM of Government Technology Brands for GovExec, where he will spearhead collaboration efforts and continue his operational role across all GovExec media brands. He will work alongside GovExec’s Group Publisher, James Hanson, who remains responsible for revenue for the federal portfolio of brands. In addition to expanding the breadth and depth of product offerings, GovExec welcomes the employee base of Public Sector 360.
To ensure seamless business continuity, there will be a period of transition over the next several months as the teams collaborate to best serve government executives.
